Mapping your Literate Ecology so far (Journal 12)

At this point in the semester, we’ve worked through several different college-level genres in order to examine discourse communities that are a part of your writing (or literate) ecology. What have you noticed about your own writing ecology so far? Where do you have to do the most transitioning, between discourse communities? What discourse communities synch up really well? Has anything surprised you about your own writing knowledge and development this semester?

Don’t forget: we have our Project 4 presentations TOMORROW. Your infographics are due to be posted as a page to your blog site (title the page “Infographic”). We’ll pull up our infographics on the screen, and you will all have 3 min. each to talk through the points on the rubric. Hopefully, we’ll also have time to talk through the Writing Showcase and debrief about our awesome day!

See you in class!

~Nicole

Peer Review Reflection (Journal 11)

Reflect on your experiences with peer (reader) review so far this semester. What are the positive results of engaging in peer review? What makes it frustrating? Are there differences in reader review experiences as you switch between genres/assignments? What have you learned from your classmates as you have engaged in peer review—about yourself as a writer? About the writing process in general?

Visual Composing

What are the differences between reading text and reading visuals? Are there pros and cons for you as a reader for either modality? What about composing—what can you do with text that you can’t do with visuals? What can you do with visuals that is unique? (When we ask “what can we do with this genre?” we are asking about the genre’s affordances.)
